BRITAIN IN BLOOM IN COMPETITION

We have been asked to represent Yorkshire in the Britain in Bloom Competition for 2009. In 2004 we won the category when we were entered before so we have a lot of hard work ahead to emulate this.

We do hope many more residents will feel able to help us and we will put dates of special working parties, litter picks etc both on this website and in the Ilkley Gazette - who have indicated their willingness to help with our publicity.

PROJECTS 2009

Last year some of the pupils from All Saints School designed a replacement planting scheme for the circular bed in the car park next to All Saints Church and also for the old rose bed in the Riverside Gardens. With the help of Bradford Parks and Landscapes these beds have now been planted up. We have not been able to put any trees in the circular bed because it is within the confines of the Scheduled Monument of the Old Fort.

Ilkley in Bloom volunteers have started clearing out the litter and debris from the Pinfold in Weston Road in the hopes that this can be replanted and used once more as a quiet area for residents to sit. The Ilkley Civic Society is also considering a Blue Plaque so that residents and visitors alike know what the space was used for.

LITTER PICKERS

We know many residents carry out their own litter picks and we would like to know who you are so that we can get a rough idea of how many you are. We are very grateful and it all helps us with our work. If you could email me your details on the email address above I would appreciate it. (Kate)
